MANTUA is an improvised music project from Elaine Malone (Hex, Land Crabs). This tape was created in collaboration with fiddle player Niamh Dalton (Suantraí, Trá Pháidín). A duet focusing on drone based, real-time composition. The react and respond nature of the compositions carves way for a playful and experimental musical conversation.

Malone: Influenced by the occult and environmental decline, symbolism in the forms of Virgin Mary holograms and the decay of nature. Other influences include the work of Jodorowsky, bogs and death.

Dalton: Influenced by hypnotic, drone and dream-like melody. Excited by hearing activity and repetition give impressions of stillness or inactivity, making the music "as ignorable as it is interesting" (Brian Eno)
Niamh Dalton is a member of Trá Pháidín and has played with Suantraí, Aoife Blake, The Bonk and Council for the Dark Arts Orchestra.
With a background in Traditional Irish, Country & Old-time fiddle playing, Dalton finds herself exploring more disruptive approaches to music making. Challenging her own disciplinary definitions within music allows her to express and draw from many sounds and traditions, pushing her curiosities in a way that feels more at home.

The tape was recorded live in Plugd Records, Cork.
